Want to clinch that all important interview with a FTSE 100 company? Getting a good degree is no longer enough. This is where Bright Futures Soc comes in, we provide networking opportunities with some of the key graduate employers. This is in addition to workshops to develop your transferable skills all with the view to making York students a desirable target for large companies both before and after graduation.
Last Friday Jen and myself took a trip down to the Shell Centre in London to attend the Bright Futures National Event. We met with representatives from over 20 different university societies nation-wide and 14 of the countries' top graduate employers for an afternoon of presentations and networking.
We discovered a lot about the structure of the Bright Futures and built up some strong contacts. A partnership with the long established society at Leeds is looking increasingly likely and we have new corporate targets that we now want to bring to York including Rolls-Royce, Allen & Overy and Unilever.
The unveiling of a new service for Bright Futures members was brought to our attention at the event and we thought it would interest many of our members here. It allows you to be headhunted by employers using a complex system based around a user created student profile which contains all your relevant information as well as built in psychometric assessments that you can practise and master. It's called Grad Intel and designed to help take away some of the stress of job hunting, follow the link below to our national website where you can find out more and sign-up to the service.
As of week 9 of the autumn term York Bright Futures is a fully ratified YUSU society. This means we can finally get the ball rolling and start holding events.
We have already been in contact with a lot of the top graduate recruiters and have had an overwhelmingly positive response. The spring term is looking good and we are preparing to provide an invaluable service to the students of York Uni – getting us noticed on the graduate employment map.
